The Whole Truth About Social Media



Social media are hot and why companies go like crazy for years in search of
the perfect formula for success on these platforms. What we do not know is
that this formula does not exist. There are, however, a handful of truths
about social networks. Suw Chairman-Anderson on Forbes lists some of them:

 


Social media is  a long term game

In social media there are successes that occur in the overnight. To reap
victories before sowing takes much effort and time. It's about being
persistent and be willing to wait months or even years to start seeing the
first fruits of our efforts.

Writing well is not enough

Some believe that the key to success in social media is to be skilled in the
art of collecting and combining words. And it's true that writing is an
essential ingredient in the Web 2.0, but even more important is building a
network of connections that each and every one of the important nodes.

Choose a place where you feel comfortable

Some people love Twitter, Facebook and other others opt for Pinterest or
Google +. Whether you use social media to build our personal brand to build
the brand image of a company, we need to feel comfortable and enjoy the
chosen platforms. If we are comfortable in many platforms simultaneously and
do not want to waste time and money on each and every one of them, you should
pay attention to the demographics of social networks.


Accept that you can not be everywhere

The pressure to be present in every social media universe 2.0 is often very
large. However, if you do not want to spend time and energy unnecessarily,
must become aware that it is impossible to pretend to be everywhere. In
preferably be present either in a few sites that evil everywhere.

Talk, do not just broadcast information

If social networks are "social" is because its essence is to talk to people,
engage in conversations with strangers and not just to deliver information in
a one-way street. There is, therefore, to look after the social and
necessarily implies listening and talking.


Do not be blinded by your ego

What to us personally or the company you work with is important is not
necessarily relevant to the rest of the people. Promoted in social media is
not bad, the bad is abusing the promotion. And if we abuse the "self-
promotion", the community we have built will give us inevitably back.

Recycle your own creativity

Both individual users and companies have a creative flow that can dump on
social networks. Moreover, people love to other users share with them the
"backstage" of their creative processes.
